Professor Harald Gollnick is the former Director and Head of Department Dermatology and Venereology at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg in Germany. His clinical and laboratory research is dedicated to retinoids, psoriasis, borreliosis, hair, acne, photobiology, skin cancer, dermatopathology and medical devices technology.
Dr Gollnick is past president of the German Society Dermatology, the European Section and Board Union of European Medical Specialists and of the European Dermatology Forum. He serves as a permanent member of the Scientific Board for the Berlin Foundation of Dermatology and German Dermatology Society Board. Dr Gollnick has implemented the harmonised European curriculum for residents and is currently working on the harmonisation of the undergraduate training in DermVen for Europe (Erasmus program).
He has investigating pathophysiology, biochemistry, clinical efficacy and adverse event profile including research on serum lipids, in cell culture models and in psychosomatics for acne. Dr Gollnick has demonstrated the mechanisms of insulin and insulin growth factor excess on the expression of TLR 2 and 4 on sebocytes and stimulation of growth of sebocytes in addition to androgens. A link to the carbohydrate excess in diets and provocation or deterioration of acne could be also found. Recently, he became interested in microbiota transplantation as a new tool for topical acne treatment.
